Anthropometry (from Greek ἄνθρωπος anthropos, German ‘human’, and μέτρον metron, German ‘measure’) is the teaching of determining and applying the dimensions of the human body. Until a few years ago, anthropometric data was collected in an analogue fashion. Through the advancements of technology, the human being is re-measured but this time not only through analogue data such as birth certificates. Today, humans are measured in an unconscious fashion through clicks and likes helping to understand their wants, needs and desires. Blockchain technology, a new technology mainly known through Bitcoin — the first decentralized digital currency advances the application in which the human individual can be measured — in financial terms. This essay argues that the importance of power relations to digital currency development implicates a change in political economy in this area.

This research lays out how political economy can better engage with this space with
attention to supply control and ledger technology. In attending to these key variables, this paper discusses that political economy can begin to more systematically analyze the importance of digital currencies to power structures in economic relations. State finance is going to see a massive transformation of the international monetary system impacting its citizens and financial sovereignty.
